Even ideology permeated the children's stories: the beginnings of forced collectivisation in the village are seen through the eyes of a young boy. As the son of an honest and deliberate communist official, there is no shortage of informed insight, even if it is lightened slightly by the occasional wacky idea. However, childhood friendships or even loves run up against the conflicts of an excited age, especially when the protagonist's best friends come from families of class enemies.

"You" is an individual and collective chronicle, a newspaper both fictional and real that it summons more than it tells.

Part of Channel 4 series Derek Jacobi has stepped in to voice lyrics in a incredibly moving new film. Taking the role of an ageing writer addressing a lover, Jacobi's monologue is interspersed with footage of birth, death and all that comes in between. Absolutely shattering stuff.

The teleplay was based on V. Mayakovsky’s poems “You!”, “Listen!”, “Conversation with Comrade Lenin” and other works of the poet.

After the death of her best friend, a victim of homophobia, a young girl tries to understand what happened. What could she have done? When will the questioning end? One thought won't leave her: It could be me; it could be you.
